{"id":63,"date":"2014-04-15T05:45:19","date_gmt":"2014-04-15T10:45:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/galaxyfleet.com\/scifi\/?p=63"},"modified":"2015-06-01T19:43:38","modified_gmt":"2015-06-02T00:43:38","slug":"total-lunar-eclipse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/galaxyfleet.com\/scifi\/total-lunar-eclipse\/","title":{"rendered":"What Does A Total Lunar Eclipse Look Like?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Why Do They Call A Total Lunar Eclipse The Blood Moon?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/galaxyfleet.com\/scifi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Total-Lunar-Eclipse.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-64\" alt=\"Total Lunar Eclipse\" src=\"http:\/\/galaxyfleet.com\/scifi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Total-Lunar-Eclipse.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"252\" srcset=\"https:\/\/galaxyfleet.com\/scifi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Total-Lunar-Eclipse.jpg 738w, https:\/\/galaxyfleet.com\/scifi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Total-Lunar-Eclipse-300x189.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a>A <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lunar_eclipse\" target=\"_blank\">complete Lunar Eclipse<\/a> occurs only during a Full Moon.\u00a0 For the astronomical layman who has never viewed an eclipse it seems some of the online descriptions can be confusing.\u00a0 On the one hand the Moons eclipse is said to be similair in view to a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Solar_eclipse\" target=\"_blank\">solar eclipse<\/a> in which the sun slowly disappears until nothing but a ring of list exists around a black circle.\u00a0 The black of the Suns eclipse being the result of the Moon moving between the Earth, and Sun.\u00a0 The Lunar Eclipse is also described as the Blood Moon due to the reddish hue it has.\u00a0 Some will say the Moon doesn&#8217;t really disappear like the Sun during it&#8217;s eclipse.\u00a0 If you&#8217;re confused then the answer is that both descriptions are true.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0A Total Lunar Eclipse begins with the full bright Moon starting to disappear piece by piece as if it was going through all the phases it would go through in a complete month.\u00a0 You see the bright Moon in contrast to the black part which is no longer illuminated by the Sun as the Moon moves into Earth&#8217;s shadow.\u00a0 As it nearly disappears the black portions will begin to take on an orange to crimson hue due to scattered sunlight being cast upon it by edges of Earth&#8217;s atmosphere.\u00a0 Due to the Moons size, and distance from Earth it can&#8217;t completely escape the rays of the Sun. Eventually we see a full Moon that is red once it&#8217;s completely in the Earth&#8217;s shadow.\u00a0 This is where the name Blood Moon comes from.\u00a0 This is not to be confused with the <a href=\"http:\/\/paganwiccan.about.com\/b\/2014\/04\/11\/blood-moons-vs-the-blood-moon.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Blood Moon of October<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As the Moon starts to move out of the Earth&#8217;s shadow the red color gives way to the black color again as we see a crescent Moon.
